Product Review: Simple answer to an irritating problem
I had a couple of radiators with small leaks, nothing drastic, just drip drip drip. As the dripping radiators were more irritating than a real problem, I sort of forgot about them. The little glass bowls under the leaks only had small amounts of water and plumbers are expensive! Then I noticed one of the glass bowls had been moved and there was a small stain on the carpet, so annoying. I mentioned this to a friend who suggested I try Fernox Leak Sealer which reminded me of the sealer I used in old cars for leaky radiators. Easy to use, just part emptied the system and poured the Fernox into a radiator through one of the top openings, where the bleeding nipple is. Once in, and the nut replaced, I filled the system and turned on the central heating. Easy as that and far cheaper than calling out a plumber. The whole process took about fifteen minutes!

Stainless Steel Cylinders
The manufacturers of Stainless Steel Cylinders all now advocate that ONLY INCOLOY OR Titanium elements WITH AN INCOLOY THERMOSTAT POCKET are fitted. You will find a guarantee exception if one is NOT fitted, then the cylinder warranty will become invalid. The main reason for needing an element with an INCOLOY thermostat pocket instead of the normal copper one, is that there can be electrolytic reactions between the copper and the stainless steel.
Hard Water Areas
In areas of harder water, INCOLOY is recommended for use due to the resistive properties.
Severe Water Areas
Titanium should be used. The warranty will NOT be honoured if the wrong type of element has been found to be fitted in an area of hard water

Product Review: On test!
We live in an all-electric home in a very hard water area, so our immersion heater gets a lot of use, under pretty extreme condition, and has to be pretty tough.
Since we had our hot water tank replaced 5 years ago, I have had to replace the immersion heater 5 or 6 times! (The original heater lasted over ten years.) The heater that came with the new tank lasted about two years before splitting and shorting out, but since then no heater has lasted as long as a year and some have only made it to a few months - our most recent one lasted under 6 weeks!
Not knowing about special heaters for hard water, my first replacement was a standard copper immersion, which only last a few months (why on earth do they sell copper immersions in such a hard water area?!). After that I used the incoloy ones, designed to stand up to hard water, but I haven't had much more success with these (the one that most recenty failed after less than six weeks was an incoloy one). Product Review: Handy little hairstopper
I purchased this for our walk in shower and it is ideal. It is made of flexible rubber so if you stand on it by accident it doesn't break. I also purchased one for a bathroom which has the shower over the bath and this fit the bath plug neatly and works well there also.
